Matunda Fund (School/Orphanage)

The Matunda fund is our general giving account which supports various areas of the school and orphanage. This could be anything from a donation towards clothing, to money for building and decorative work. Perhaps you would even consider sponsoring a teacher? Our teachers are dedicated to the project and work for less than half the government wage. We desperately want to change this.

Through donating to the Matunda fund you will be providing essential support for so many areas of our project and the children’s welfare. You may have a specific idea in mind which is great! Alternatively, why not take a look at our wish list for ideas on how to help. Tanzania is an incredibly expensive country in which to live and many items quickly become ‘luxury’ due to foreign importation. Please take a look at the following things which have been made possible only through kind and generous donations to the Matunda fund. Matunda in Swahili means ‘fruit’ by the way… Kaaya’s grandfather’s name – the late tribal chief of the community. This fund is dedicated to this memory.

The following are just a few of the wonderful items we have been able to purchase through donations to the Matunda fund. There are many more which we cannot fit within this page but we will ensure that every donation receives a personal thanks and picture of the recipient or finished product.

Through the generous donation of three Matunda supporters we not only had our kindergarten class decorated by a fantastic artist with a mural for the children but we also were able to put a ceiling over class two and kindergarten! A very big asante sana to Susan Coupe and Denise and Graham Clarke from the UK.

The Cicely Foundation in the UK continue to provide us with support through ongoing fundraising initiatives. The latest of these has helped build our new toilet block for the school including showers and a laundry room! Asante sana Cicely!

Alex & Margaret Stevenson from New Zealand visited us in June and donated the fantastic new shelves we now have in our teachers’ staff room. The shelving provides an organised space for all teaching resources. Asante sana to you both!

A joint asante sana to Karen Langridge in the UK for donating to the orphanage, new swim wear and Marisa Mcmillan also from the UK for the fantastic swimming pool! These were both ‘wish list’ donations and have been a non-stop source of fun ever since arriving.
