Prices

Volunteer Programme Fees

The prices quoted below in USD include shared accommodation, 3 meals per day served at the main house, and access to all of our facilities including; gated compound with 24 hour security, clean drinking water, electricity, toilet, shower with hot water, satellite TV, DVD-player, washing machine (2$ per load) and Internet (2$ per hour). Taking into consideration the rural environment in which Peace Matunda is situated, our facilities are very generous and well functioning. However, we cannot guarantee a 100% efficiency at all times and ask volunteers to understand and be prepared for power outages.

Note to volunteers:

As of the beginning of 2012 the Tanzanian government increased the price of a volunteer permit required for volunteer placements from $120 USD to $550 USD for 90 days. As an organization that relies heavily on our volunteer program we want to encourage volunteers to continue to come to Peace Matunda by opting to share some of the cost of this permit. Our volunteer fees have been adjusted to include the price of the volunteer permit that will be arranged by our staff the first week of your arrival. We have also adjusted the minimum length of volunteer placement to be 2 weeks. For those who are interested in visiting the project for less than 2 weeks we encourage you to partake in our Cultural Week.  During the Cultural Week you will be able to get acquainted with the project as well as participate in the activities featured in the Cultural Week such as trek to the waterfall, learning how to make traditional coffee, and taking Swahili lessons, please see the tourism page for more information and prices for the cultural week.

Changes take effect March 1st 2012. Please see below.

Language and Culture Week:

A Language and Culture Week is offered for those who wish to start their stay in Tanzania with an introduction to Tanzanian culture and the Kiswahili language. During this week you will also learn about the Arusha region through excursions in the area. The aim of the language and cultural week is to offer you the best experience possible in the time that you’re here.

This five-day package costs $250 in supplement to your volunteer programme 1st week fee and includes:

  • 5 hours of Kiswahili lessons
  • A Tanzanian cooking class
  • Excursion to Arusha city
  • Excursion to Tengeru local market
  • Excursion to Lake Duluti and Lodemi waterfalls
  • Shared accommodation and access to all of our facilities
  • 3 Meals per day prepared in the volunteer house

During these excursions you will get the chance to interact with the locals and see first hand the ‘real Africa’.

We highly recommend this week, as it will help maximize your free time during your volunteer period. By the end of the week you will be your own guide to the surrounding areas and have the confidence to explore freely by yourself or with other volunteers for the rest of your stay.
